Become a Taxon Expert

If you want to actively contribute to Balearica, you can become a Taxon Expert!

How It Works

As a Taxon Expert, your role will involve:

  • Reviewing taxa of interest already present in our database (taxonomy, distribution, etc.).
  • Adding missing but essential information required for our system (i.e. habitat, directives, etc.).
  • Sharing your data (e.g., species occurrences) with the scientific community. If you have valuable biodiversity data, we can assist in integrating it into our platform after a review process.

All personal contributions will be acknowledged in the corresponding entries within Balearica. Given the constant and ongoing scientific debate surrounding taxonomy, distribution, and the autecology of taxa, we aim to address the most relevant issues and carefully consider all contributions provided.

How to Get Started

Simply contact us via email, specifying your taxon group of interest and providing a brief overview of your background. Our team will review your profile, and if it aligns with our project’s needs, we will reach out to discuss a potential collaboration.

Your expertise will help enhance biodiversity knowledge and contribute to a growing scientific resource!

Reporting bugs, submitting change requests, participating in discussions, and proposing new features can be time-consuming, and at times, it may feel like a thankless or unproductive task. However, these contributions are crucial for Balearica’s development team, as they play a key role in improving the quality of our product and ensuring we provide better service to our users with every update.

To streamline this process, we plan to establish clear guidelines for dynamic interaction with Balearica. In line with this goal, we will introduce user-friendly features that allow the community to submit issues and participate in discussions more easily, thereby enhancing both the efficiency and overall quality of the platform.
