Balearica: Update to version 1.1.0

We released the new version of Balearica [v1.1.0], packed with new data, improved visuals, and smarter tools for your research!

More Taxa, More Data

Our dataset just got bigger! We’ve expanded Balearica with new taxa, occurrences, and sequences.

We also added:

  • Taxa: from 13,783 to 16,620 (+2,837)

  • Occurrences: from 1,397,426 to 1,629,797 (+232,371)

  • Sequences: from 350,646 to 498,389 (+147,743)

This means broader coverage and more comprehensive data for Balearic biodiversity research!

New Additions

Balearica development keeps going strong!

Highlights include:

  • Initial release of the documentation, offering a clearer and more structured guide to the platform.
  • New Source Ranking page and Source Profiles for a better understanding of data provenance.
  • Genetic Marker synonyms, making it easier to search genetic data.
  • GBIF dataset key integration for improved data linking and interoperability.
  • AI-assisted taxonomy retrieval, adding new records through intelligent data enhancement.

Changes & Improvements

This version also comes with several design and performance improvements to make your experience smoother and more cohesive:

  • Redesigned Home Page, featuring an updated visual identity and layout.
  • Updated logo and branding, reflecting Balearica’s growing vision.
  • Restyled Source Page for a consistent and modern appearance.
  • Improved loading times thanks to a brand-new caching system.

Fixes

We’ve taken care of a few issues to ensure greater accuracy and reliability:

  • Updated to IUCN v4 classification.
  • Fixed minor map display issues for occurrence points.

We’ve just uploaded new information for the Apidae taxon group, including details on Degree of Establishment, Systems, Habitats, and Directives.
